Scholarship started to honor fallen war hero

LCpl. Charles New, who passed away Oct. 28, 2012, while sleeping at Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville N.C., is being honored with a scholarship that will be presented to a Harrison High School student.

Keith Maupin started the Yellow Ribbon Support Center after his son, Matt Maupin, was captured in the war on terrorism on April 9, 2004.

Angie Long, New’s mother and owner of Guido’s Restaurant, said that Maupin raised money to honor soldiers by having a dinner each year.
